Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire Wedding Anniversary

Back in the Day

It’s hard to believe it’s now three years ago that I shot Gemma and Chris’ wedding in Northamptonshire in 2016.

It was a beautiful summer’s day that shone down on the historic village of Nether Heyford in the heart of the English countryside. The village is recorded in the Domesday Book and has one of the largest village greens in the country – so it was without doubt a beautiful setting for a rural wedding.

The church of St Peter and St Paul, where Gemma and Chris tied the knot, is a grade II listed building, with some of it dating back to the 13th century.  With lots of trees and greenery surrounding the church, its a classic backdrop for an English rural wedding.

The reception was held in a marquee on a friend’s private land, in the heart of the village – a fantastic way to do a wedding your own way.

So happy anniversary Gemma and Chris.  I hope you enjoy your day!

Littleton House Wedding Photography – Chloe & Dan – Back in the Day

Back in the Day

Another year, another 1st wedding anniversary.  Yes, today a year ago I was shooting Chloe and Dan’s wedding at Littleton House at Shepperton Studios in Surrey.

Having been up in Northamptonshire the day before, to shoot Amy and Mark’s wedding, it was down to a Surrey wedding venue much closer to home for Chloe and Dan’s big day.  As a couple they had been really keen on my storytelling documentary approach to their wedding story, so again it was a wedding I was massively looking forward to.

A Unique Surrey Wedding Venue

Littleton House is a unique manor house wedding venue that, rather unusually, sits within the famous Shepperton film studios in Surrey.  This alone makes it one of the most interesting wedding venues in Surrey.  It’s not many brides who can say they got married where parts of films – such as Harry Potter, Love Actually, Bridget Jones’ Diary, The Princess Bride and the Da Vinci Code – were shot!

So Chloe and Dan were definitely in esteemed company as they celebrated their wedding with friends and family in such famous surroundings.  I must confess that I didn’t realise at the time that I took Chloe and Dan down to the small woods and lake it was one of the creepier settings in a Harry Potter film. Thankfully, there were no fantastic beasts to deal with on the day.

Gremlins & The Damage Done

However, it was a wedding where I certainly suffered some damage – a camera viewfinder getting smashed, and a lens getting chipped – so maybe there were some nasty gremlins about…for the wedding photographer at least!

None of which was the couple’s fault and it would be fair to say it was definitely a fantastic and memorable wedding…for all the right reasons.  So I’m delighted to wish Chloe and Dan a very happy first anniversary!

Dodmoor House Wedding Photography – Back in the Day

Back in the Day

Wow! A year ago today I was photographing my Amy and Mark’s wonderful wedding at the delightful Dodmoor House in Northamptonshire. Where does the time go?  I still remember the day as if it was only yesterday.

Documentary Wedding Photographer

Amy and Mark were a brilliant couple to work with, who bought into the whole concept of a more natural and relaxed storytelling approach to wedding photography.  There was so much emotion and many genuine moments on the day, that it made my job as their documentary wedding photographer easy and straightforward!

Dodmoor House – Northamptonshire Wedding Venue

Dodmoor House is definitely one of Northamptonshire’s best wedding venues. A Grade II listed barn conversion, set beside the Grand Union Canal in the heart of the beautiful Northants countryside, its a perfect backdrop to any couple’s wedding day.

South Lodge Horsham Wedding Photography Anniversary

Back in the Day, Blog Article

I can’t believe it’s now 2 years since I shot Kelly & Ryan’s wedding photography at the beautiful South Lodge Hotel near Horsham in Sussex.  What threatened to start out a cold wet day turned into a beautiful sunny day in the Sussex countryside.

What I loved most about Kelly and Ryan’s special day were the emotions that ran through the day. Being a Sussex documentary wedding photography I love capturing all those real moments and genuine emotions that make up a wedding story. There was certainly no shortage of that on Kelly and Ryan’s day.

Telling a couple’s real story means they have highly personal and memorable memories to look back upon. By ensuring the integrity of the moments that occurred ensures it’s their story captured, not my creation of one.

So I look back with wonderful memories of of Kelly and Ryan’s wedding at the South Lodge Horsham. Happy 2nd wedding anniversary to you both!

It’s hard to believe that a year has already passed since Emily & Phil’s wedding at Sedgebrook Hall in Northamptonshire.  Very much like today we were blessed with some glorious summer weather, that just added to the warm mood of the wedding.

Back in the Day: Mr & Mrs Poog’s 2nd Wedding Anniversary

Back in the Day

It’s hard to believe that it’s now been 2 years since I shot the wedding of Nicole and Eugene’s (Poog as he get’s called!) wedding down at Horsham Registry Office in West Sussex and at the Roebuck Hotel in Forest Row, East Sussex.  Where does the time go?

I still have so many vivid memories from the day: from the pouring rain during the bridal preparations in the morning through to the glorious Sussex sunshine in the afternoon. Add to that Jedi Knights, big balloons and a quiz where one of the answers included anal beads…trust me, you had to be there!!!

Happy 2nd wedding anniversary Mr and Mrs Poog – I hope you have a wonderful day.

Back In The Day: Lisa & Steve’s Slaley Hall Wedding Anniversary

Back in the Day

I can’t believe it’s now a year since I flew up to Northumberland for Lisa and Steve’s Slaley Hall wedding, in the rugged North East countryside – about half an hour or so from Newcastle.

It was a small, intimate wedding but one that was big on laughs and fun, ideal for my relaxed and unobtrusive wedding photojournalism approach, with the couple surrounded by close family and friends.  It was without doubt a perfect day that I’m sure all will look back on with fond memories and much happiness.  I hope my wedding photographs play a central part in that.

Happy first wedding anniversary Lisa and Steve!

Back In The Day: Kelly & Ryan’s South Lodge Wedding Anniversary

Back in the Day

It’s hard to believe that it’s now a year to the day since I had the privilege and honour of documenting Kelly and Ryan’s wedding story at the beautiful South Lodge Hotel near Horsham in West Sussex.

Kelly had been a bridesmaid at a previous wedding, that of Nicole and Eugene, and was keen to have a natural, relaxed and unobtrusive wedding photojournalism approach to her and Ryan’s special day.

I’m delighted she did, as theirs was a special day and a very unique wedding story. The South Lodge Hotel is without doubt one of the best wedding venues in West Sussex – so if you are thinking of getting married there, I’d definitely recommend it! If you are, please do give me a call on 07920 422144 or send me a message via my contact as I’d love to chat with you about your wedding plans.

Anyhow, all that’s left to do is wish Kelly and Ryan a very happy 1st wedding anniversary!

Back In The Day: Long Shadows At Crockwell Farm

Back in the Day

A Random Look Back Through My Wedding Photography Archives

It’s hard to believe that Jo and Paul’s wonderful wedding at Crockwell Farm in Eydon, Northamptonshire was well over a year ago now.

It was a truly beautiful morning in the Northamptonshire countryside and the early rural mist had given way to a brilliant winter sun that bode so well for the wedding day ahead.

I had been heading out from where the bridal preparations were taking place, in a quaint little cottage on the farm grounds, to go and take some detail shots of where the bride and groom and their guests would be eating later in the day, when luck would have it and the groom arrived with his young son.

As they helped carry some bridal flowers from the car, the low morning sun cast some dramatic shadows of them walking across the parking area to the beautiful wedding venue . Being such a graphic image, it was perfect for black and white, and is a lovely example of the morning preparations before the wedding day itself got started more fully.

It’s these kind of little stories within the bigger story of the wedding day that I am so drawn to as a storytelling wedding photojournalist.

A random look back through my wedding photography archives

It was a cold and wet October day at the Marriott Meon Valley Hotel, near Southampton, for Sam and Kevin’s small and intimate Hampshire wedding. Yet, despite the damp weather outside, there were laughs a plenty inside, as this image of Kevin delivering his Groom’s speech ably demonstrates.

As a wedding photojournalist I love capturing these kind of real moments and genuine emotions of a wedding story.

Back In The Day: Father of the Bride Looks On

Back in the Day

A random look back through my wedding photography archives

The bridal preparations can often be a slighty awkward time for the father-of-the-bride.  After all, he steps into the excitement and frenzy of the preparations which have usually been ongoing for a good few hours already.  The bride is getting ever more emotional as she gets into her dress and the wedding ceremony is getting ever near.  The bridal party are excitedly helping with hair, make-up, securing the dress and doing all those girly things that girls are normally used to doing.

On the other hand, the bride’s father – normally a little nervous and emotional himself – is seeing his daughter for the first time in her wedding dress but often feels a spare part in the proceedings.  It can be a little like standing in the middle of Piccadilly Circus at rush hour and not being entirely sure on how to cross the road!

And this image, from Gemma & Rich’s East Sussex Wedding a few years ago, at one of the best wedding venues in Brighton, the  Old Ship Hotel , is a wonderful example of that.  Both mother’s are busy helping the bride, who is focused on her beautiful wedding dress, and all the father can do is look on – but look on he does with immense love and pride for his beautiful daughter. It’s those fleeting little moments captured that are key to my wedding photojournalism approach.

A random look back through my wedding photography archives

I was contacted today about Kara and Jason’s wonderful wedding at Rowton Castle back in 2012 – so it got me thinking about how fabulous a venue Rowton Castle is for weddings.

As a wedding photographer I dream  of beautiful and elegant backdrops for my wedding photography and Rowton Castle in Shropshire provides exactly that.  It’s one of the best Shropshire wedding venues.

I’m also excited that I’ll be returning to Rowton Castle in February 2016 to shoot the wedding of Maria and Peter. I can’t wait!
