When Sinead and Fungai booked me to be their wedding photographer at Ashby Manor House on the Warwickshire Northamptonshire border they offered me a unique proposal.
The night before the wedding day they were having an intimate family meal at the venue and invited me to attend to document the evening’s gathering. How could I refuse? After all, I was staying locally that evening so it would be a fun and unique way to spend the night before the wedding after.
A Stunning Warwickshire Wedding Venue
Arriving at Ashby Manor House you simply can’t help but be blown away by it’s beauty and grandeur. Just as impressive is the history that surrounds it.
In 1605 Robert Catesby and his fellow conspirators, including Guy Fawkes, gathered in the Manor’s gatehouse. There they conspired to assassinate King James I and his courtiers by blowing up the Houses of Parliament in one of England’s most notorious acts of treason, the Gunpowder Plot.
I doubt I’ll ever photograph a wedding at a venue with such an important piece of British history to its name!
Games & Drinks on the Lawn
As luck would have it, it was a beautiful evening that allowed Sinead and Fungai’s closest family and friends to spend time out in the gardens of the house.
From playing with frisbee’s to enjoying cocktails on the lawn, it was a classically idyllic English setting, and perfect for such a small family gathering before the following day’s nuptials.
Inside Ashby Manor House
From feature fire places to a grand dining room, Ashby Manor House is as grand inside as it is outside. The smell of roast chicken wafted in from the kitchen and candles flickered on the dining table, the most perfect ambiance for the evening.
As the family sat down to eat, I packed up and left them to eat in peace – eager to return the following morning for the wedding day itself…which will be the subject of my next blog – be sure not to miss it!
Here are a few more photos from that evening to enjoy.
